what I love it: I've been looking for desert boot wedges for a while now, and between my particularities in price, color, wedge color and fabrication, wedge height and ankle height, it hasn't been an easy search. I saw these at Target a few weeks ago and snatched them up, and I couldn't be happier that I did. I love the idea of heeled shoes for day, but they have to be low enough to be comfortable walking around and casual enough that they don't look weird coming out before dark. These meet all those requirements, just in time for fall. I wore them with jeans running errands and meeting a friend for lunch, but they also work with skirts and dresses, especially with a little sock action. They are perfect for days you want a little lift but want to stay comfortable, or nights when you want to keep it casual, but not too casual.

Last summer, I met a friend for lunch and she was wearing a brand new necklace with a charm from her home state that she boasted was inexpensive and amongst a whole market inside Chelsea Market. Always on the search for meaningful jewelry that's easy to wear with anything, I jumped at the idea of browsing this same market. For one reason or another, I didn't make it down there until recently, and it was a delay I instantly regretted. The Artists & Fleas market at the back of Chelsea Market, which adds new vendors every two weeks (and keeps existing ones), offers so many different types of goods that are fun to browse and easy to pick up during a day shopping in the city. 

You'll find mostly jewelry, and I picked up a "New York hearts Ohio" necklace from Brooklyn Charm for a very reasonable price. They have jewelry trays of all different types of charms and chains of all different lengths so you can pick what you want and have your own personalized necklace in a matter of minutes. Their state charms are popular, and I love mine because it's a nice little reminder to throw on during days I'm a little homesick. Jewelry ranges from very dainty and high quality (with prices to match) to artsy and fun for those craftier people.

Jewelry isn't all, though, vintage and newly designed clothes and accessories, scarves, snarky graphic pouches, bags, home goods and even tech accessories are all things you'll find at this little market. There are tons of opportunities for great gifts with the holidays coming up and it's always fun to look and take mental inventory. I'm going to have to go back soon and pick up some rings. 

Ashley Madekwe of Revenge is publicly a fashion lover with a fashion blog photographed by her photographer husband. There aren't a ton of close up detail shots, but when there are, it shows her excellent accessorizing sense, especially when it comes to rings. Whether casual or more formal, she likes to load on the rings of all different shapes, sizes and metals, and she's so good at doing it without looking too heavy or crowded. Whether it's layering necklaces, an arm party or stacking rings, dainty jewelry in endless combinations seems to be hanging around. I love the look of it, it's a nice break from statement pieces, which I also love, but some outfits call for something a little lighter. The look of layers can sometimes be more interesting and unexpected than bolder pieces as well. 

It seems like jewelry designers come out of the woodwork with each new jewelry trend, and it makes shopping for these items exciting with each new discovery. Here are some great places to get your hands (and neck and wrists) on the latest.

Jennifer Zeuner has great graphic shapes in all the types of jewelry she makes. Jennifer Fisher is known for her barely there bracelets and rings that offer the perfect daintiness when worn alone and the slightness to be stacked and stacked, but she also makes the shapes of the moment and great charms. Breakout jewelry shop Catbird is perfect for quirky charms and rings that invite you to stack to infinity, as well as unique wedding and engagement options. Bing Bang has both bold pieces and fun little items that would be great to mix for any kind of layering. Jennie Kwon's designs are minimalist and thoughtful, offering the feminine pieces you didn't know you've been wanting. Ariel Gordon's designs let you choose between types of metals and categories so there's a lot to choose from. Gabriela Artigas has structural collections, some with natural elements that are modern and unique. Odette takes simple and interesting designs and texturizes them, making the pieces both bold and dainty. And, of course, BaubleBar offers affordable pieces in every trend imaginable.

UPDATE: I originally left out Jennifer Meyer, who I definitely meant to include in this little roundup. She's such a genius with this type of barely-there dainty, beautiful, personality-filled jewelry that is perfect for a simple and basic look as well as the foundations or finishings of a stack. What an oversight!

I have a multi-hyphenate sort-of cousin who, as one of the hyphens in her does-it-all life, is a co-owner of Elezar, a purse company that offers well-made and unique handbags of all sizes. She's based in Chicago, and last time I was there she very unnecessarily gifted me the above bag, and it turns out it's the large bag I never knew I needed.

I started using the bag immediately, exchanging the carry on I had originally traveled with for the new one on my way home. Soon after I returned from that trip, I started to do various work in coffee shops around NYC instead of my apartment, so this bag came in handy for easily toting around my 15-inch computer and the rest of my workday necessities. I've used it when I have job interviews, it easily holds heels, lunch and anything else I need while looking professional and still fashionable, and the neutral-but-not-overdone color is perfection for all seasons. 

Before I owned this bag, my go-to carryall was my Longchamp Le Pliage large tote, which is another ideal bag that I can't say enough good things about. But after a while, it starts to look worn and dirty and it doesn't particularly exude a specific type of style personality as a look-completer. It's very functional. This new bag, with its neutral color, interesting shape, ample pockets and roomy interior is something I don't think I could have even picked out myself, and got me thinking about how maybe next time I go "work bag" shopping, I'll have to get a little more creative. Though, now that I have this one, it's going to be quite a while until there's a next time.

what it is: Sole Society, "Helena" bootie
why I love it: This bootie, (which comes in four colors) reminds me a lot of a Christian Louboutin bootie I fell in love with a year or so ago, in terms of the shape. Booties are obviously great for fall and winter, and the shape of this one is so unique and feminine, I think it would add a gorgeous line to the end of any leg in any outfit. I love the idea of a red bootie because it's a little more unexpected. Black is obvious, and there's a reason for that, but red can look good finishing off a monochrome neutral outfit, complementing red somewhere else in an outfit or artfully popping with other colors. I somehow don't own any red shoes, so I'm thinking I'm going to have to grab these to remedy that rather large problem.
